A light-duty pickup used mostly as a daily driver is a different purchase from a tow vehicle used every weekend. The Silverado TurboMax offers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of standard torque; the available 5.3L and 6.2L V8s give shoppers familiar V8 choices; the available Duramax 3.0L diesel makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft and carries Chevrolet’s top advertised 2026 Silverado 1500 tow number in a qualifying setup. Trim and drivetrain availability matter, so check the exact window sticker.
Toyota’s i-FORCE gas V6 produces 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft in the manufacturer’s 2026 release, while the optional i-FORCE MAX hybrid produces 437 combined horsepower and 583 lb-ft. Those hybrid peaks exceed the peak horsepower and torque of the listed Silverado engines. They do not prove that a particular Tundra tows more than a particular Silverado. The Tundra hybrid is self-charging during driving; it is not a plug-in pickup.
If your work is repeated highway mileage around St. Louis and beyond, compare a Duramax truck with the Tundra you would actually buy for fuel type, manufacturer mileage ratings and ownership costs. A 13,300-pound advertised Silverado maximum and a 12,000-pound Tundra maximum describe different best-equipped model configurations. Neither one can be assigned to a selected Crew Cab simply because it wears the same nameplate. Begin with your trailer’s loaded weight, not its empty brochure weight. Add water, propane, gear, batteries and anything else carried on a normal trip, then identify tongue weight and the hitch you intend to use.

Payload is the capacity available for occupants, trailer tongue weight, cargo and added equipment, and it varies by vehicle. Here is a planning illustration, not a rating for a specific truck: a trailer places 700 pounds on the hitch, occupants add 600 pounds, and tools or luggage add 200 pounds. That is 1,500 pounds accounted for before other accessories. If the door label of the truck under consideration allows less than that, a model-line tow advertisement cannot make the combination appropriate.
The published 2,260-pound Silverado figure and 1,850-pound Tundra figure are each maxima reached by particular versions. A loaded four-wheel-drive truck, hybrid, larger wheels or added options can have a different capacity. Ask Weber to send the label of a Silverado stock number and obtain the same information on the Tundra. Do not infer a 410-pound real-world advantage from the two maximums.
Chevrolet describes the Silverado Durabed as roll-formed steel with 12 standard tie-downs. The available Multi-Flex Tailgate creates different positions for access or longer material; the bed itself and tailgate equipment should be verified on the vehicle you inspect. Toyota uses a standard sheet-molded composite bed with aluminum reinforcement, an available deck-rail system and several bed lengths. Neither material has a universal advantage for every buyer.
If you move lumber, pallets, landscaping supplies or sports equipment in St. Louis County, bring dimensions of the largest normal load. Inspect access to the tie-downs with your usual bed cover, measure the load floor and wheelhouse clearance, check tailgate reach at your height and ask whether the power outlet, liner and lighting are on that particular truck. Both trucks can serve as family transportation, but a test drive in the exact cab and trim tells you more than a comparison of badge names. Place your child seats or crew members in the second row; check front-seat adjustments and rear-door access; try the infotainment, physical climate controls and phone connection. Toyota offers a large optional center display and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. Chevrolet offers Chevy Safety Assist and available advanced trailer camera views. Availability varies by trim.
For a long interstate trip with a trailer, look beyond a list of driver-assist brand names. Chevrolet advertises available Super Cruise with trailering on properly equipped Silverado High Country vehicles and compatible roads; confirm the installed system, active plan, road coverage and trailer conditions. Inspect Tundra’s available trailer-assist and camera features on the selected grade. Every assistance system requires attention, and none increases a truck’s approved load.
Ask both sellers for a written out-the-door proposal on identified VINs, including vehicle price, destination if applicable, dealer additions, documentation fees, taxes, trade allowance, incentives for which you qualify and financing terms. Promotional rates or lease figures can vary by eligibility and date. A comparison between a base gas Tundra and a highly equipped Silverado diesel says little about brand value.

Ask what happens if your preferred engine, cab and bed combination is unavailable today; do not substitute a truck whose tow or payload rating fails the workload just to secure an advertised payment.
Chevrolet publishes a higher model-line maximum of 13,300 pounds versus Toyota’s 12,000 pounds. Those numbers belong to qualifying configurations. A specific Silverado might have a lower rating than a specific Tundra; compare the actual VINs and trailer load.
