2026 HALF-TON TRUCK COMPARISON • ST. LOUIS
Ford’s 2026 F-150 publishes higher top-end towing and payload numbers. Chevrolet’s Silverado offers a diesel option, a distinctive cargo bed and available hands-free technology that Chevrolet says can be used while towing when conditions allow. The right choice depends on the engine, box and equipment of two actual trucks—not a contest between unrelated headline builds.

| Manufacturer headline | Silverado 1500 | Ford F-150 |
|---|---|---|
| Max available conventional towing | 13,300 lb in Chevrolet’s qualifying Duramax configuration. | 13,500 lb with a qualifying 3.5L EcoBoost V6, Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow Axle. |
| Max available payload | 2,260 lb advertised by Chevrolet. | 2,440 lb advertised by Ford. |
| Distinctive engine options | TurboMax, 5.3L V8, 6.2L V8 and 3.0L Duramax diesel. | EcoBoost gas engines, 5.0L V8 and available PowerBoost full hybrid, among other versions. |
| Cargo access | 12 standard bed tie-downs and available six-function Multi-Flex Tailgate. | Available Pro Access Tailgate and Pro Power Onboard on qualifying trucks. |
A buyer should give Ford credit for its higher published ceiling: 13,500 versus 13,300 pounds towing, and 2,440 versus 2,260 pounds payload. Those small model-line differences cannot tell you which two equipped trucks on local lots have greater capacity. Ford’s published 13,500-pound towing setup has specific axle and Tow/Haul requirements. Chevrolet’s 13,300-pound setup has specific Duramax, cab, bed and wheel requirements.
SILVERADO
The Silverado 1500 offers a 3.0L Duramax turbodiesel with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft, and Chevrolet advertises up to 28 highway mpg in a qualifying 2026 configuration. Compare the truck’s actual window sticker, diesel fuel and service needs, towing frequency and your mileage. Ford’s current F-150 lineup does not offer a diesel.
F-150
Ford offers a 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid and available Pro Power Onboard for tools or devices. That can be a strong fit when a hybrid powertrain or substantial built-in power supply is central to your day. Ford lists hybrid trailer ratings by drivetrain, axle and wheelbase in its 2026 guide; verify the rating on the exact build.
BOTH
Silverado shoppers can compare TurboMax or two V8 engines; Ford buyers can compare EcoBoost V6 engines and an available V8. Feel the acceleration and shifts with passengers aboard, then compare price and fuel usage on the trims you would actually purchase. Brand-level fuel economy does not replace engine- and drivetrain-specific ratings.
If you want a Chevrolet V8 or diesel, search new Silverado inventory by engine and confirm the listing and window sticker. Ford shoppers should obtain the comparable F-150 equipment information from a Ford seller.
The trailer does not disappear after you read a brochure. Record the loaded trailer weight with fuel, water and gear; measured tongue weight; hitch type; driver and passengers; bed cargo; and any add-ons. Compare these against the selected vehicle’s ratings, including the payload and weight labels. Ford’s 2026 towing chart specifically warns that tongue weight plus passengers and cargo cannot exceed vehicle or axle ratings. Chevrolet’s charts likewise depend on exact engine, cab, drivetrain, box and equipment.
Imagine two trucks each rated well above your trailer’s weight. If one has a lower door-label payload after a luxury trim, 4WD and accessories, the hitch and passengers may make it the worse match. A numerical 200-pound difference between published towing maxima does not settle that decision. Ask Weber for a Silverado VIN and chart row, then obtain the corresponding Ford details before comparing.
Read the detailed 2026 Silverado 1500 towing guide. If your actual loaded camper, enclosed trailer or jobsite equipment overwhelms a half-ton truck’s payload, see the Silverado 1500 versus 2500 HD class guide rather than assuming another half-ton badge fixes the problem.
Chevrolet’s Durabed is roll-formed steel with 12 standard tie-downs. The available Multi-Flex Tailgate can position an inner gate for easier access or help manage long material. Ford’s available Pro Access Tailgate is a different solution: its swing-out section is intended to improve access, particularly with a trailer nearby. Ford also offers Pro Power Onboard on eligible trucks. These are features to operate in person, because the right one depends on what you unload every week.

Chevrolet advertises available Super Cruise with trailering on 2026 Silverado High Country, subject to compatible roads, system status, equipment and instructions. Ford offers available BlueCruise for hands-free highway driving on certain 2026 F-150 trims, along with trailer aids such as available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. The current Ford model page also discusses a new BlueCruise with Towing feature under 2027 F-150, so do not assume that particular towing feature is installed on a 2026 truck.
Both brands offer multiple cameras or towing tools with availability controlled by trim and equipment. In a test drive, ask for a walk-through of the actual camera views, hitch setup, trailer-brake controls and safe-use limitations. Driver assistance never raises tow capacity or replaces driver supervision. Focus on the features you will activate, rather than counting every possible manufacturer feature as standard.
FAMILY
Compare a Crew Cab Silverado and a Ford SuperCrew in a similar price and equipment range. Sit in the rear row, park in a typical St. Louis County lot, check your garage and assess visibility. Leave the 13,000-pound tow claims out unless your actual work requires them.
TRAILER
Choose both trucks around your loaded trailer and desired passenger count, then ask for the VIN-specific door label, chart row and required tow equipment. Include tongue weight, tools, cooler and passengers; do not compare an F-150 max-tow build with a Silverado that lacks its trailering package.
WORK
Pick a box length and access method that fit your materials and tools. On a Silverado, check Durabed tie-downs and available Multi-Flex Tailgate. On the Ford, check Pro Access Tailgate and whether Pro Power Onboard’s available output matches the devices you plan to run.
Ask for a written proposal on each truck with VIN, engine, drivetrain, box, packages, window sticker, vehicle price, dealer-installed products, fees, taxes, applicable incentives and trade allowance. Keep loan length, down payment and interest rate the same when comparing payments. A lower monthly payment obtained by stretching a loan does not establish a lower truck price.
Weber’s trade-value resource can help you prepare your current vehicle details, and the online financing application is available if you want to discuss financing. Credit approval and terms depend on the applicant and lender. For the Chevrolet proposal, ask Weber to identify any available Silverado that meets your actual load, color, cab, box and budget instead of quoting a generic configuration.
Bring the usual occupants, a child seat or jobsite equipment if relevant, and a written description of your trailer. Check sight lines from the driver’s seat, the rear-door opening, cab storage and phone integration before driving. Use a route that includes some of the stop-and-go traffic and highway speeds you actually encounter around Creve Coeur and St. Louis. If the seller permits a tow demonstration, follow their and the manufacturer’s procedures; never assume a test vehicle is configured for your trailer.
Afterward, request photos of the window sticker and payload label plus a quote with stock number. You can then make a factual comparison even if the Ford and Silverado are at different stores. If the Silverado falls short of your requirements, ask Weber to find another Chevrolet configuration or look at a higher truck class rather than accepting an unsuitable truck.
Ford lists 13,500 pounds for a qualifying 3.5L EcoBoost F-150 with required equipment; Chevrolet lists 13,300 pounds for a qualifying Duramax Silverado 1500. Neither maximum describes every truck or trailer setup.
Ford lists 2,440 pounds; Chevrolet lists 2,260 pounds. Check the exact vehicle’s payload label, because trim, cab, drivetrain and options change the number.
Weber Chevrolet sells Chevrolet vehicles. This page helps compare 2026 manufacturer information; use a Ford seller to inspect and price a specific F-150.
Ford’s current 2026 F-150 powertrain lineup does not list a diesel. Silverado 1500 offers the available Duramax 3.0L turbodiesel; confirm current availability by VIN.
Chevrolet advertises available Super Cruise with trailering on eligible Silverado High Country vehicles and compatible roads. The equipment, connected service, road and trailer conditions must all be confirmed.
When your loaded trailer, hitch load, people and cargo exceed the useful capacity of a correctly configured 1500, or your work needs the heavier truck’s characteristics. Compare the selected VINs and ratings, not only class labels.
