Fuel Prices and Vehicle Cost Planning for St. Louis Drivers

FUEL COST GUIDE • USE CURRENT PRICES

Compare what you spend—not just the biggest MPG number.

Fuel cost is most useful when it is connected to your own mileage and the vehicle you are considering. Use a current, dated pump price and a realistic MPG assumption rather than treating an old advertisement as today’s ownership cost.

Any retained fuel-price service on this page is provided by its identified third party and should be checked for its timestamp and terms. This guide does not publish or guarantee a live St. Louis pump price.

Use three inputs for a basic gasoline-cost estimate

The simple planning formula is: annual miles ÷ assumed MPG × price per gallon = estimated annual fuel cost. Use the same mileage and fuel-price assumptions when comparing vehicles. For an actual purchase, match the MPG information to the model year, engine and drivetrain.

This calculation is a scenario, not a prediction. Traffic, weather, speed, idling, maintenance, load and other conditions can change fuel use. Do not average city and highway MPG figures casually and assume that is your own combined result.

Illustrative comparison—not current pump pricing

The example’s difference is $280 per year under these assumptions. It is not a quote for a named model or a live fuel price.

Assumption or resultVehicle AVehicle B
Annual mileage12,000 miles12,000 miles
Assumed fuel economy25 MPG30 MPG
Illustrative fuel price$3.50 per gallon$3.50 per gallon
Estimated annual gallons480 gallons400 gallons
Estimated annual fuel cost$1,680$1,400

A higher-priced vehicle should not be described as paying for itself from this example. Compare the purchase difference, financing and all other ownership costs separately.

Check the type of comparison you are making

Gasoline or diesel

Use the fuel type and grade required or recommended for the actual engine and the current local price for that fuel. Do not compare all engines using one convenient gasoline assumption.

Towing or heavy cargo

The MPG label is not a guarantee for a loaded trailer route. Use a realistic scenario for the work and include stops and travel needs.

Electric vehicle

MPGe and miles of range are not a dollar-per-mile quote. Compare electricity consumption, delivered charging cost, charging losses and any installation or public-session costs separately.

Put fuel in the whole ownership budget

Purchase price, interest, insurance, tires, maintenance and repairs may outweigh a small fuel-cost difference. Compare actual VINs and the complete transaction rather than using a single efficiency figure to declare one vehicle the least expensive choice.

For trucks, use the Silverado gas-versus-diesel guide. For electric choices, start with EV research and charging preparation. The payment calculator addresses entered loan assumptions, not fuel cost or an approved finance offer.

Use current labels and actual vehicle information

A research page and a used vehicle listing have different roles. Verify the model year, engine, drivetrain and equipment on the vehicle you are considering, then compare the appropriate efficiency information. Do not carry an old model’s advertised MPG into the specification of another vehicle.

Browse new Chevrolet inventory or used vehicles and ask about the exact VIN. For a used vehicle, history and condition deserve their own review alongside any original fuel-economy rating.

Prepare a useful cost comparison before visiting

Write down annual mileage, typical trip length, the correct fuel price and the vehicle assumptions used. Bring the two scenarios to a discussion with Weber Chevrolet in Creve Coeur. That makes a conversation about overall ownership more concrete than asking which model has the highest headline MPG.

For a service-related change in fuel use, describe the concern to the service department rather than assuming a particular component has failed. Use the vehicle’s maintenance guidance and a proper assessment where needed.

Questions shoppers ask

Is the $3.50 figure a current St. Louis gas price?

No. It is an illustrative input used only to show the arithmetic. Use a current, dated price for your own scenario.

Does a higher MPG number always mean lower total ownership cost?

No. Compare purchase price, financing, insurance, maintenance and other costs as well as fuel.

Can I use an EV’s MPGe as my electricity bill?

No. MPGe is an efficiency comparison measure, not your charging cost. Use the actual electricity-consumption and charging-price assumptions.

Compare ownership with numbers that match your driving.

Save two actual vehicles, use consistent mileage and energy-price assumptions, and ask Weber Chevrolet to explain the complete purchase proposal alongside your operating-cost comparison.
